Robotic Plasma Application
Robotic plasma application is used in surface treatment of polymer parts to modify certain material characteristics, such as adhesion or wettability. However, geometry of moulded or extruded polymer parts are often complex and dimensions can vary within the same production batch. Also, design life cycle of goods is decreasing which results in part design continuously changing.
Axium has successfully integrated this process into a robotic cell thus reducing part treatment cycle time, improving process quality, and solved worker health and safety problems.
Using the flexibility of 6 axis robots, the solution can be integrated to any type of surface geometry. Dimensional variations can also be considered with the integration of inspection devices, such as vision cameras or optical sensors, to the robot control system making the process self-adjustable to each individual part dimensions.
Flexibility of today’s robot system is not only limited to it’s normal operation, but also to it’s programming and setup. Now, a robot can be programmed offline, thus not stopping production, with user friendly office PC applications. Also, new programming technology for faster online start-ups are available. The flexibility of robotics applies now to the user’s skills, knowledge and budget.
